He then moved to the laboratory of Chris Henderson at Columbia University, where he examined molecular markers of postnatal motor neuron maturation and elements of motor-specific disease. Nancy has built a reputation as a strong journalist, and her careful thinking on audience will help us extend our reach and grow reader engagement.Editors & Staff Scientific Editors Tim Spencer, Executive received his PhD from the City University of New York, where he studied the signaling mechanisms that underlie the promotion of axonal growth and regeneration following injury in the laboratory of Marie Filbin. She’ll continue to be responsible for the Video department, and she’ll take on a number of masthead-level duties like: improving the video experience on our platform, developing new visual story formats, shaping robust programming for visual stories and working with Audience teams to sharpen off-platform strategies. Part of the reason for Nancy’s success has been her emphasis on clear organization and process as well as finding the right data to help make decisions. Under Nancy’s direction, the team has emphasized YouTube as a valuable off-platform path to engage new and different viewers, and in two years, they have tripled the size of the audience and amount of time spent with our journalism there.

#Songpress editior series
This past year, the Video department has moved closer to parts of the report like International on projects like The Dispatch, a series that generates original video coverage of big international stories like the protests in Hong Kong or the crackdown in Kashmir. Their work covering Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons won an Emmy this year, and recently, they’ve focused on a line of coverage revealing that Russia had bombed hospitals and civilian targets in Syria. Video’s Visual Investigations unit has already built a catalog of memorable projects, including stories focused on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi and how the Las Vegas gunman planned a massacre. This important and challenging evolution was largely orchestrated by Nancy, who made a number of strategic moves, narrowing the desk’s focus and finding ways to invest in new initiatives like an investigative team devoted to verifying and utilizing different kinds of open-source reporting. Over the last four years, The Times’s Video department has transformed itself into a focused operation that consistently publishes signature journalism that makes cable, broadcast and digital competitors jealous. We’re promoting Nancy Donaldson Gauss, who has successfully led our Video desk, to associate managing editor to assume a broader strategic role in helping make visual journalism a bigger part of our digital programming and storytelling.
